LPGA Hall of Famer Dottie Pepper will be the guest speaker Thursday at the Fund for Women of the Southern Tier’s annual Inspire dinner. Pepper is a 17-time LPGA champion whose first LPGA event was as an amateur at the LPGA Corning Classic in 1983, said Chris Sharkey, chairman of Inspire. Pepper now serves as CBS Sports’ lead on-course reporter for the PGA, the first woman to fill that role.
NTL hands out 2023-2024 awards
The Northern Tier League announced their 2023-2024 top awards for this past season, with NP-Mansfield’s Karson Dominick and Coach Jim Farrer garnering top honors. Dominick was named the 2023-2024 NTL Co-Male Athlete of the Year, and was a three-sport athlete where he played football, basketball and baseball on three separate District 4 Playoff teams.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Hundreds laced up their running shoes in Eldridge Park this morning for the Heather's Home 5K. The walking paths of Eldridge Park and the Lackawanna Trail served as the race course for the Heather's Home 5K this morning. Runners from all skillsets and backgrounds took part in the 5K race, while participating kids got to enjoy a fun-run around the lake, all to help poverty-stricken children across the world.
Corning-Painted Post state champion athletes recognized by state officials
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Corning-Painted Post athletes were recognized by state officials on Monday for their titles and achievements. Senator Tom O'Mara and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano presented official legislative resolutions they sponsored, honoring the athletes for being state champions. Among those recognized were the boys bowling team for capturing the Division I Bowling Championship, Taylor Farrell, who won the 1500-Meter Race Walk, Angelina McKane, who won both the girls 50-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Butterfly titles in swimming, and the girls varsity softball team that won the first-ever Class AAA state softball title.

Father Mathew Society had a 'wonderful influence' on Elmira: History column
“One of the biggest local theatrical productions ever attempted in Elmira is that of the musical extravaganza of college life. 'Professor Napoleon' which will be produced at the Lyceum Theater next month under the auspices of the Father Mathew Society. It requires between seven and eight hundred people to fill the many parts, and over four hundred of this number have already been secured and have been in daily rehearsal for the past week.”
