The 2026 elections are over and a "blue wave" hit Connecticut, similar to much of the country. Gov. Ned Lamont won by a large margin, as did the five Democrats Connecticut will send to Congress and eight state Senate seats were flipped from Republican to Democrat - one for the first time in 60 years.

For eight years I worked as a nurse at one of the major hospitals in our area, on a med-surg floor and in ED observation. I saw the same moment again and again. An older patient was medically ready to go home. And the family was standing at the bedside asking, quietly, whether Mom would be safe, and whether she would fall again the minute she got back to her own kitchen.

When two real estate agents buy a house for over asking, willingly removing inspection and appraisal, you know it’s good. That’s what Mike Fabbri and Scott Francis did to lock down their Litchfield County home, as seen in the pages of CTC&G.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut said on Friday that he has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a stroke last weekend and will miss “several weeks” of votes in the Senate as he recovers in a rehabilitation facility. Murphy, 53, said in a statement that doctors are “very encouraged by the progress I've made so far" and that the stay at the rehabilitation center will get him back to work on the quickest timeline possible. Murphy said doctors diagnosed him with a small hemorrhagic stroke, which is a bleed in the brain. He said he called 911 on Oct. 31 out of an abundance of caution after feeling that “something was not right” with his body. “This has been a scary experience for me and my family, and I appreciate the continued respect for our privacy,” he said. The press release updating Murphy's condition included a statement from Dr. Jose Suarez, chief of neurosciences critical care at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Suarez said the senator has shown tremendous progress and “we expect that he will make a full recovery following rehabilitation.” In the Senate, Murphy serves on the Appropriations Committee and is a leading voice

Chris Powell writes that "larger Democratic majorities in the legislature likely foreshadow a big expansion of state government" in Connecticut.
Connecticut electoral politics has been dully predictable in recent years. Not since 2006 has a Republican been elected to Congress or a Connecticut constitutional office, including the governorship. The last time the GOP won majority status in the state Senate was 1997, aside from an 18-18 tie in 2016; in the House, 1984. Since the 2018 election, Democrats have enjoyed a trifecta – control of the executive and legislative branches of state government – but Republican nominees continued to win their share of state House and Senate seats.

As Connecticut settles into the colder months, homes across the state begin to rely on fireplaces, wood stoves, furnaces, and space heaters to stay comfortable. With the sudden onset of high heating oil costs this summer, some homeowners may switch to a more traditional approach like burning wood to take the chill out. Unfortunately, heating season also marks a predictable rise in preventable fires.
