Eat This Now: Bar Nachos at Jim’s Alley Bar
Tucked in a little alley of the Crossroads is a place aptly called Jim’s Alley Bar. It is cozy and deeply Midwestern with unpretentious booth and table seating, and the kind of nostalgic dark wood paneling that evokes a childhood basement hangout with your cousins. Funnily enough, this is where I decided to take my visiting cousin and a high school friend on a Saturday afternoon whim.

Bar Stilwell Introduces “Leprechaun Leap” for St. Patrick’s Day
Bar Stilwell at Loews Kansas City Hotel is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a spirited seasonal cocktail, the “Leprechaun Leap.”. Crafted with Jameson Irish Whiskey, the drink nods to Irish heritage and folklore while delivering a bright, refreshing profile perfect for the holiday. The smooth warmth of Jameson pairs with crisp apple cider, fresh lemon juice, and a splash of ginger ale for a lively finish that quite literally “leaps” on the palate. A subtle touch of green adds festive flair, making this a lucky sip for the season. Served in a double rocks glass and garnished with a dehydrated Granny Smith apple slice, the Leprechaun Leap balances authenticity with approachability — ideal for guests looking to celebrate with something both spirited and refreshing.

In Culinary News: The Deli Grind
Allie “Vee” Toney has long been a fixture in the Marlborough neighborhood and beyond. Her beloved restaurant, Vee’s Sweets & Treats Deli, located at 8005 Paseo Boulevard, was open from 2008 until last year. Vee’s wasn’t just a place to grab a sandwich or one of those famously oversized donuts, it was a well-loved community spot. After closing her doors on Christmas Eve, Toney is stepping into a well-earned retirement, but the story doesn’t end there. The space recently reopened as The Deli Grind, led by a longtime family friend, Sheree Hudson. The name is new, but much of what locals loved about Vee’s remains, including the same comforting recipes, fresh breads used to make house-made sandwiches, and fresh donuts and pastries made daily, all served with a side of neighborhood warmth. It’s a thoughtful handoff, rooted in trust, history, and heart. For Kansas City, it means a familiar favorite lives on. It has the same soul, just a fresh new chapter.
