MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police are investigating after they said a man stole a vehicle with children inside then crashed Saturday night.

Officers were called to the intersection of North Thompson Drive and Swanton Road at around 8:40 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a man crash into two parked cars then run from the scene.

Police said that two children riding in the vehicle that crashed were uninjured, but were taken to a hospital. As officers were investigating the crash, a woman reported that her car had been stolen from a gas station with two children inside.

The woman said she loaned her vehicle to a family member. The family member reported that she had pulled over in front of a gas station when a man forced her out of the car and drove off.

A K-9 and drone unit were used to try and locate the man. No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon. Police said Child Protective Services was notified of the incident and an investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident is urged to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 or online at p3tips.com .
