FOREST, Va. (BC Athletics) – Jazmyne Smith, Delaney Lail and Jordan Wise were named to the ODAC all-conference softball lists announced by the league office this afternoon. Lail highlights the three BC selections with a spot on the first spot and being named the ODAC Rookie of the Year. Convicted murderer of Lynchburg teen dies in car crash while on parole
LYNCHBURG, Va. – A man who admitted to strangling a Lynchburg teen girl to death in May 1988 died in a car crash last week, according to Virginia State Police. As we’ve reported previously, on April 5, 1989, Gregory Joyner, who was 17 years old at the time, was convicted of the first-degree murder and attempted rape of 15-year-old Sarah Jamison. He was sentenced to life plus 10 years, the maximum sentence for his charges; however, in November 2020, he was granted parole.
Liberty softball heads to Athens regional; UVa, VT both get at-large bids
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Liberty (36-23) will open competition at the 2024 NCAA Division I Softball Championship on Friday, playing in the Athens Regional against Charlotte (38-16) on Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPN+. The No. 11 national seed, Georgia (39-16), will host the four-team regional, Friday through Sunday, at Turner Softball Stadium. In the other side of the bracket, No. 11 seed Georgia will face UNCW (33-21), Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Liberty walks off Western Kentucky, claims first CUSA title
LAS CRUCES, NM (WSET) — After falling in their Conference USA tournament opener, Liberty University Softball had only one thing left to do. That's what redshirt freshman Savannah Jessee did in the 9th inning, driving a double to the wall in left center field, driving in Megan Fortner to lift the No. 1-seeded Liberty University Softball team to a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Western Kentucky in Saturday’s Conference USA Championship title game at New Mexico State Softball Complex. The win clinched the Flames their fourth consecutive conference tournament title and first in CUSA.
