In September, the Rio Grande Cooter Conservation Program released three Rio Grande Cooter turtles into the Black River near Carlsbad. The freshwater turtles hatched at the ABQ BioPark Zoo in 2023 through the breeding program.

The Stuck at the Airport team recently traveled to and from Alburquerque International Sunport (ABQ) for our recent trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. On the way home, we made sure to arrive at the terminal extra early so that we could spend time in the pre-security Great Hall studying the more than 900 scale aircraft models on display courtesy of Calvacade of Wings, and exploring the exhibit titled, Spirit of the Sunport: ABQ’s Aviation Heritage.

3 Questions: LuisContreras on his new take on Mexican traditions, now showing in Old Town

By Sara Atencio-Gonzales, The Paper. – For artist Luis Contreras, Mexican traditions are a source of inspiration and discovery. Known for his Día de los Muertos imagery and Catrina sculptures, Contreras draws on family memories and cultural traditions to create artwork that reflects his heritage. His latest exhibition, Tradición, opened Oct. 15 at Lapis Room in Albuquerque’s Old Town. The show, his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, features a collaboration with painter Brandon Maldonado and explores new ideas beyond his signature sculptures. The Paper spoke with Contreras about the inspiration behind Tradición, his connection to Mexican traditions and his collaboration with Maldonado.

For young people starting their first corporate jobs, it doesn’t take long before idealistic naivete is dealt a cruel blow by the reality of the corporate world. They soon discover a measurable disconnect between a company’s ethical values and actual operational behavior. While the stated purpose of mission, vision and values statements is to “inspire trust and guide strategy,” they function more as marketing shields and public relation tools rather than true operational framework. Mission, vision and values statements ring hollow when a company pledges to prioritze employee well-being (how many times have you heard or seen the phrase “people are our most valuable asset”) but discard those values when quarterly earnings or shareholder returns are threatened.
