BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Benton County Quorum Court wants to hold a special election on the possibility of raising the fire dues related to two volunteer fire departments outside of Lowell.

The court unanimously passed two ordinances on March 26, but according to state law, the court has to discuss and pass the ordinances at three different meetings for the special elections to be official.

The dues would be increased from $40 to $100 yearly for properties the Hickory Creek and Pleasure Heights volunteer fire departments serve.

The court will discuss the ordinances again in April and May.

If it continues to pass through these meetings, it will be on the ballot for voters to decide in November.
