    Daily Briefing: JCPS nearly doubles its multilingual student population

    Good morning, Louisville! It's Sunday again, which means it's time to recap the week.

    Today we can expect possible severe thunderstorms with a high of about 85.

    Here's what you should know:

    Jefferson County Public Schools has seen its multilingual student population nearly double in the past five years, but funding has not kept pace, our Krista Johnson reports. See why and what's being done.

    ICYMI:

    • Politics Gov. Andy Beshear signed two executive orders honoring Black history and protecting hair discrimination in the workplace on Thursday. The orders make Juneteenth an executive branch holiday and protects natural hairstyles with an effort that mirrors the “CROWN act.”
    • LMPD: Bryan Gillis, the Louisville Metro Police detective at the center of the arrest last week of Scottie Scheffler, was previously suspended for performing “donuts” with an “intoxicated civilian” in his police vehicle in a business parking lot and for missing court dates, records obtained by The Courier Journal show.
    • Food:Please & Thank You owner is seeking $50K and an apology after alleged counterfeit cookies served at the 150th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
