Stephen A. Smith makes bold Scottie Scheffler claim

After Louisville police claimed there is no body-cam footage of the incident involving Scottie Scheffler, Stephen A. Smith is urging them to find it anyway.

Recently, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed there was no body camera footage of the incident that ended with Scheffler being handcuffed outside the gates of Valhalla Golf Club early Friday morning and brought to prison.

“A mistake like that can’t happen,” Smith ranted on his podcast. “That’s not a mistake in our eyes, that’s intentional. Nobody believes that you conveniently forgot to turn on your body-cam when you’re arresting the No. 1 golfer in the world! Nobody believes that!”

Smith insists he’s not claiming racism played a role in there being no footage of the No. 1 golfer in the world, who happens to be white, allegedly dragging a police officer to the ground with his car. But even if he doesn’t believe this to be an example of racism, Smith knows the lack of footage will cause others to connect those dots.

“You’re not gonna have your body-cam on? Nobody’s believing that,” Smith continued. “And even though it may not be completely accurate, you give Black America cause to pause when the No. 1 golfer in the world, who happens to be white, and gets arrested, the only footage that we’ve seen that’s reliable is from a reporter for ESPN.”

Smith noted there was police footage of Tiger Woods being arrested in Jupiter, Florida for driving under the influence in 2017. While there isn’t a direct correlation to be made between Woods’ arrest in Florida from seven years ago and Scheffler’s arrest last Friday in Kentucky, Smith urged police to stop letting this happen.

“If you’re going to consistently have video incriminating Black people, consistently have video incriminating white people…I’m not trying to imply this was some racial incident or anything like that. I’m saying, to cynics who are quick to lean on race, you give them fodder when you let stuff like that happen. Where’s the damn video?” Smith asked. “That has to stop. Where’s the damn video…Find it! Get it! Because if it were Tiger Woods you’d have it. If it was Tiger Woods you know good and damn well you’d have it.”

After being arrested and brought to a holding cell where he watched ESPN’s Get Up , Scheffler was quickly released from prison and made it back to Valhalla for his Friday morning tee time during the second round of the PGA Championship. Scheffler’s arraignment, initially scheduled for May 21, was delayed to June 3 where the world No. 1 golfer is expected to plead not guilty to charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.
