Marcus Morris says Clippers would've won 2020 title if it weren't for NBA bubble: "We was perfect, man"

In his recent appearance on the Run It Back podcast, veteran forward Marcus Morris Sr . echoed his belief that he and the Los Angeles Clippers would've been the 2019-20 champions if the NBA Bubble didn't happen.

"Hands down we was the best team, we was the most connected team," Morris said . "Top to bottom, starters to the guys coming off the bench. We was perfect, man. I think that the Bubble, guys just got tired of being there. Tired of being not around their family, just being in an uncomfortable space, and you know, it just affected us."

Title favorites turned into a historic flop

The Clippers entered the 2019-20 season as the heavy favorites to win the NBA title. Headlined by reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, it seemed like they finally had the squad to go all the way.

L.A. had 44 wins and was second in the West, but the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, forcing the league to suspend the season. It disturbed most teams, including the Clippers, and when the campaign resumed in July, they couldn't find the same rhythm.

While they remained atop the Western Conference, the Clippers endured ups and downs in the playoffs. Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks first gave them a tough six-game first-round series. Then, in the second round, they dominated their matchup against the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets by going up 3-1. But instead of closing the series, the Clippers flopped and were eliminated after seven games.

    Missed opportunity

Morris' Clippers teammates also shared the same sentiment about how being in the Bubble deprived them of a championship. Paul George stated that it felt like a prison , while Lou Williams revealed that they had taken their foot off the gas after hearing mumblings that nobody would respect the Bubble championship.

The Los Angeles Lakers ended up winning the trophy, with some people still putting an asterisk next to their title run. Meanwhile, the Clippers are yet to win one, and with rumblings about George potentially leaving the organization, it might take a while before they're in contention again.
