A collision involving a Metro E Line train and a USC Transportation bus in the Exposition Park area resulted in 18 people being taken to hospitals and three dozen others treated for minor injuries at the scene.

It happened at the 900 block of West Exposition Boulevard just before noon.

Two people -- believed to have been aboard the bus -- were taken to hospitals in serious condition, according to the LAFD. Another 16 patients were taken to hospitals in fair condition, while 37 others were treated and released at the scene. No children or juveniles were among the injured, fire officials said.

An LAFD spokesman told reporters at the scene there were more than 150 people on the train when the crash occurred, and responding crews set up a triage area to evaluate the various patients.

The Expo Park/USC Station along the E Line was shut down while the investigation was conducted. Metro was using bus shuttles to carry passengers between the Jefferson/USC and Expo/Vermont stations.

Exposition Boulevard was also closed during the investigation.
