LeBron James walks out of press conference after Lakers loss

Over the course of his 21 seasons in the NBA, LeBron James has built a strong relationship with the media. Whether it be his highest highs or his lowest lows, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is typically more than willing to sit in front of the cameras and face the music.

But following the Lakers’ 101-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Monday night, James was especially perturbed. So much so that his postgame press conference lasted a mere four minutes — which was just long enough for the four-time MVP to voice his complaints about the officiating in Los Angeles’ Game 2 defeat.

“Of course it’s a heartbreaking game, you never want to lose in that fashion,” James said following the game, which ended with a Jamal Murray buzzer-beating game-winning shot. “I don’t understand what’s going on in the replay center, to be honest. I think I said it this year or last year or whatever. [D’Angelo Russell] clearly gets hit in the face on a drive. What the f*** do we have a replay center if it’s going to go — it doesn’t make sense to me.

“It makes no sense to me. It bothers me. Sorry I didn’t answer your question, but that s*** is like — and then I saw what just happen with the Sixers-Knicks game too. What are we doing?”

James proceeded to exit the press conference, which lasted significantly shorter than his typical postgame media sessions. Comparatively, the majority of postgame media sessions this postseason have lasted between seven and 12 minutes.

Considering James’ stature, one would expect his postgame press conferences to err on the longer side, although it’s worth noting that he also cut his media session short — after roughly five minutes — following the Lakers’ Game 1 loss on Saturday. Perhaps this is a matter of the 39-year-old taking (even) more control of his media availability or maybe it’s just a matter of him being frustrated with his team falling down 0-2 to the NBA’s defending champions.

Or maybe, he’s just that frustrated about the NBA’s replay center. To be fair, Russell did seem to get whacked in the face.
