At approximately 6:45 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division dispatched a call regarding a traffic collision involving a sheriff’s bus transporting men in custody.

The bus collided with a white Nissan in the intersection of 7th and Figueroa streets. Both vehicles pulled over to the side of the road on the 600 block of 7th Street between Grand and Hope Street.

The LAPD and sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene to transfer injured inmates from the sheriff’s transport bus to waiting Los Angeles Fire Department ambulances.

A source close to the scene stated that there were a total of 13 inmates on the bus at the time of the collision.

According to LAFD spokesperson Nicholas Prange, at least eight inmates (all between the ages of 18 and 24), were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan declined medical services and remained on scene to cooperate with authorities. Collision damage was observed on the vehicle.
