1 Dead, 1 Critically Injured in Converted Garage Fire Behind Home in Pacoima

PACOIMA, LOS ANGELES, Mar. 28 (KNN) — One person was found deceased and another initially in grave condition at a converted garage fire behind a home in Pacoima Wednesday night.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 10:27 p.m. in the 13500 block of West Gager Street and upon arrival, located heavy flames shooting through the roof a detached garage in the rear of residential property.

Firefighters used forcible entry to open up the front of the garage and located one 39-year-old special needs woman with burns initially in grave condition, according to Nicholas Prange, PIO with the LAFD. Paramedics worked to save the woman who was subsequently brought to critical condition and rushed to a local hospital.

During the interior search of the structure, firefighters located a deceased 60-year-old woman.

The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes by 32 firefighters at the scene. LAFD’s Fire investigators responded to the location to investigate the fatality and attempt to identify a cause, according to the LAFD.

Prange told KNN there was no indication of functional smoke alarms.
