WHATS HAPPENING (WWAY) — Memorial Day weekend is upon us and with nice weather likely to accompany it, there will be plenty going on in the Cape Fear. Beginning in downtown Wilmington, it’s the 28th annual Orange Street ArtsFest. The festival will feature acrylics, oils, sculptures, drawings and more. Artists will be eligible for awards and prizes up to $550 and the event helps promote the arts in the community. Its happening Saturday and Sunday on Orange Street and 2nd to Dock Street.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — One person is in the hospital after a car overturned in the area of Highway 57 and Highway 90 in Little River on Sunday. The single-vehicle crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. and involved entrapment. The roadway was closed for an extended duration Sunday night.

Sheriff Identifies Deputies in Shooting
Five deputies remain on administrative leave after a shooting in Nakina May 15. Henry Allen Zartman, 66, of South Carolina, died in the 10:45 p.m. incident, according to the State Bureau of Investigation. Zartman was shot multiple times in a gunfight with deputies responding to a domestic disturbance and shots fired at a home on Seven Creeks Highway.
Holden Beach moving forward with demolition of pavilion
HOLDEN BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - The Town of Holden Beach is moving forward with its plans to demolish the pavilion at 131 Jordan Blvd. At its Tuesday, May 21, meeting, the board of commissioners approved a $25,000 contract between the town and Coastal Carolina Construction for the demolition of the pavilion.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Aaron Smith has been charged after a Friday assault near Whiteville. Kenneth Aaron Smith, 33, was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond on a single count of assault with a deadly weapon, detention center records show.
