Driver in 5-car Sarasota crash arrested by troopers, victim identified by investigators
The driver who allegedly ran a red light and caused a five-car Sarasota crash has been arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers said. Multiple road closures set to begin in Sarasota on Monday
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A new improvement project will begin on May 13 through May 31 until 7 p.m. that day. The Pump Station Number One Improvement Project will result in multiple road closures, that requires the northbound lanes of North Lockwood Ridge Road between 61st Street and University Parkway to be closed.

Latest Pine Avenue bid rejected
ANNA MARIA – Following Mayor Dan Murphy’s recommendation, the city commission rejected the latest Reimagining Pine Avenue bid received from C-Squared. On May 9, the commission voted 5-0 in favor of rejecting C-Squared’s approximately $1.4 million bid to construct a one-block Reimagining Pine Avenue prototype area that was to include new brick paver sidewalks along both sides of the Pine Avenue from Gulf Drive to North Shore Drive, and new crosswalks in that same one-block area. The sidewalks and crosswalks were to be funded by a state appropriation previously approved by the Florida Legislature.

North Port police arrest two teens following stolen vehicle chase
SARASOTA, Fla. — Two teens were arrested in Sarasota following a police pursuit of a reportedly stolen vehicle on Friday. The North Port Police Department received reports of a silver Nissan Altima, reported stolen from Pinellas County, heading north on I-75. Shortly after, they were alerted to a burglary in a residential community in Venice, where a car was stolen from a garage.
Coast Guard crew rescues boaters near Longboat Key
LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. (WWSB) - On Thursday, a U.S. Coast Guard Station Cortez crew rescued three boaters from a disabled vessel. The sailboat became disabled two miles west of Longboat Key. The Station Cortez crew transported the boaters and towed the vessel to port. Thankfully, no one was injured.
