LONG BRANCH, NJ – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials have announced Route 71/Norwood Avenue is scheduled to be closed overnight next week for priority drainage repairs in Long Branch, Monmouth County. This work was originally scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 24, but was rescheduled because of priority repairs on another section of Route 71.
Beginning at 10:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, until 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, and again on Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1 at the same times, Route 71/Norwood Avenue is scheduled to be closed in both directions between Roosevelt Avenue and Cedar Avenue. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses. The closure is necessary for priority drainage repairs near Stratton Place.
In addition, from 10 p.m. Thursday, May 2 until 6 a.m. Friday, May 3 and continuing weeknights through Friday, May 10 at the same times, one lane on Route 71 is scheduled to be closed with alternating traffic. The following car and truck detours will be in place overnight on Monday, April 29, Tuesday, April 30, and Wednesday, May 1:
Route 71 northbound Car detour:
Traffic on Route 71 northbound will be directed to turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue
Turn right onto Route 71/Norwood Avenue southbound
Route 71 southbound Car detour:
Traffic on Route 71/Cedar Avenue westbound will be directed to continue on Cedar Avenue and turn left onto Monmouth Road
Turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue
Turn left onto Route 71/Norwood Avenue northbound
Route 71 northbound Truck detour:
Trucks on Route 71 northbound will be directed to turn left onto Route 33/Corlies Avenue in Neptune Township, which is several miles before the car detour begins
Turn right onto Route 35 northbound
Turn right onto Route 36 eastbound
Turn right onto Route 71/Monmouth Road southbound
Route 71 southbound Truck detour:
Trucks on Route 71 southbound will be directed to turn right onto Route 36 westbound in West Long Branch, which is several miles before the car detour begins
Stay right to take the ramp to Route 35 southbound
