The Red Mill Museum Village combines history and haunts
This year's world class haunted attraction at the Red Mill Museum Village in Clinton, New Jersey is called 'Lurking in the Shadows.'
The October attraction is the mill's biggest annual fundraiser. They regularly see around 7,000 visitors for the ghoulish season which goes a long way to funding education and upkeep of the historic site.
It's an all-volunteer operation that creates the haunt, starting on Labor Day.
Haunt Master Raymond Bindus says the group starts work around Labor Day and continues nightly until the attraction is ready to open.
"I have an outstanding crew of 100% volunteers that devote their time. So, basically, I would say from Labor Day until today, my wife is a widow. We're here pretty much here all day and all night."
The mill was built in 1810 and served the surrounding area with water power for processing wool, grist and graphite until 1963. This is their 35th year hosting a haunt on the grounds. It is open Fridays and Saturdays in October.
