I Checked Walmart's Beef to See Where It Comes From - Here's What I Found

I wanted to find out where Walmart's beef comes from, so I visited a Walmart store in Oregon to see what information I could find in the beef department and the packaging. Earlier this week, I published an article on NewsBreak sharing about where Kroger has been sourcing its beef from - Where Kroger Is Getting Its Beef From Right Now - Here's What to Know. I have been wondering where other grocery stores are sourcing their meat from as well. So I went into a Walmart store in Oregon this morning to see what I could find.

That Yellow on Your Broccoli Isn’t Just a Color Change and Here’s Why It's Important

Broccoli is one of those vegetables I used to grab without giving it much thought. If the bunch looked mostly green and the stalks seemed fine, into the cart it went. But there’s one little detail worth checking before you buy it, and it only takes a few seconds to spot.

The Biscuits That Make You Wonder Why You Ever Bought the Canned Ones

A really good biscuit doesn’t need much explaining once you pull it apart and see that soft, steamy middle. These buttery biscuits bake up golden on top with tender layers inside, ready to soak up another swipe of melted butter the second they leave the oven. The edges have just enough structure to hold together, while the center stays delicate and soft enough to practically disappear with each bite. Add honey, jam, or sausage gravy and they become breakfast; set them beside fried chicken or a pot roast and suddenly they’re the thing everybody keeps reaching for. It’s simple, old-fashioned baking, but warm homemade biscuits have a way of making even an ordinary meal feel like somebody put in extra effort.

Two Ingredients Become Warm Apple Pie Donut Holes

A two-ingredient recipe should not produce something this comforting, but biscuit dough and apple pie filling know how to create convincing little donut holes. The dough surrounds the fruit and bakes into a golden shell while the apple center becomes warm, soft, and fragrant with familiar pie spices. Each bite feels like a miniature hand pie crossed with a bakery donut, only without making pastry dough or managing a long ingredient list. The small size creates plenty of browned surface, and a cinnamon-sugar coating can add the sparkle and sweetness that makes the finished batch look especially inviting. These treats are proof that a refrigerated shortcut can still produce the aroma, texture, and warm fruit center everyone associates with much more complicated baking.

Grandma Didn’t Need 15 Ingredients to Make a Pot of Potato Soup Taste Good

There’s something almost suspicious about a soup this comforting coming from only five ingredients, but that’s exactly how old kitchen recipes earned their place. Grandma’s potato soup wasn’t built around specialty cheese, expensive toppings, or a cart full of groceries. It was about tender potatoes simmered until soft, a creamy broth, simple seasoning, and that warm, velvety texture that made a bowl feel like a full meal. The potatoes do most of the work, thickening the soup naturally and giving every spoonful that familiar stick-to-your-ribs comfort. It’s the kind of recipe that makes the kitchen smell like somebody has been cooking all afternoon, even though the ingredient list is shorter than most coffee orders.

Whatever Happened to the Cake Everyone Bought at A&P?

For anyone who remembers Spanish Bar Cake, this one can unlock a very specific kind of nostalgia. That dark, warmly spiced cake with its soft, moist crumb and creamy frosting wasn’t flashy, but it had devoted fans who knew exactly what they were looking for in the bakery aisle. This homemade version brings that old favorite back with the cozy spice and rich cream cheese frosting that make each bite feel wonderfully old-fashioned. It’s the sort of cake that belongs beside a hot cup of coffee, preferably while somebody at the table says, “I haven’t had this in years.”

Four Ingredients Make This Roast Fall Apart by Itself

A slow-cooker roast that practically shreds itself sounds like the result of careful seasoning and a long ingredient list, but this version needs only four ingredients to reach that tender finish. The slow cooker provides time and gentle heat, allowing the beef to soften while the simple seasonings concentrate into a rich cooking liquid. By dinner, the meat pulls apart beneath a fork and the entire house smells as though someone spent all day actively preparing the meal. The short ingredient list makes it realistic for busy mornings, limited grocery budgets, and anyone who wants comfort food without a complicated recipe. It is hearty, familiar, and impressive in the effortless way slow-cooker dinners often are. Few things feel better than opening the lid after a long day and discovering the main course already tender, hot, and waiting to be served.

Grandma Didn’t Need the Oven to Keep a Tin of Homemade Candy Ready

Some grandmothers seemed to have a supernatural ability to produce something sweet the minute company walked through the door. Stove-top candy was made for exactly that kind of kitchen. No oven, elaborate candy molds, or bakery equipment—just a saucepan, a few familiar ingredients, and a mixture cooked until it turns rich, glossy, and ready to spoon into little homemade treats. Once cooled, each piece has that old-fashioned candy-shop satisfaction without requiring an afternoon of baking. It’s the kind of recipe that belongs in a handwritten notebook with a butter stain on the corner, right beside the cookies and fudge everyone in the family already knows by heart.

The Thanksgiving Deviled Eggs Recipe I Have to Guard Until We Sit Down to Eat

Deviled eggs with cream cheese have a smoother, richer filling than the classic mayo-only kind. The yolks get blended with softened cream cheese, mayo, Dijon, and yellow mustard, then piped right back into the whites, and they take about 45 minutes from pot to platter.

Crescent Dough Turns Into a Cinnamon-Sugar Dessert Pizza

Crescent dough, cinnamon sugar, butter, and vanilla glaze come together in a dessert that tastes like cinnamon rolls decided to become pizza. The dough bakes into a soft, flaky base with golden edges, while the cinnamon-sugar layer melts across the surface and settles into every seam. A simple glaze adds the sweet finish people expect from bakery pastries, but the flat pizza shape makes the whole treat easier to slice and share. It looks inviting straight from the baking sheet and requires none of the rolling, rising, or careful shaping associated with homemade cinnamon rolls. Every wedge offers buttery pastry, warm spice, and enough glaze to turn an ordinary tube of crescent dough into something that smells as though a bakery opened in the kitchen.

I Make Southern Collard Greens Without Ham Hocks or Bacon, and Here's How

Collard greens are about as Southern as it gets, and most of us grew up with them simmered alongside a ham hock or a spoonful of bacon fat. These are made without either one. A little maple syrup, a splash of apple cider vinegar, and some red pepper flakes give them that sweet, tangy, slightly spicy flavor, and an optional dash of liquid smoke brings the smoky note.
