CLASS ACT: High school seniors choose kindness over pranks

2024-05-22

In a refreshing twist on the typical senior prank, the 2024 graduating class of Concordia Lutheran High School decided to leave a positive mark on their community. Instead of pranks, the seniors raised $2,680 for Champion Donuts, a struggling business that has been a beloved part of their mornings for years.

"The donut shop has been a huge part of our school life," Senior Spencer Marlow said.

Senior Jayden Noack added, "They always throw in an extra donut hole or donut, a good way to get the morning going."

The students wanted to ensure the shop could make it through the slow summer season. They worked for two weeks to raise as much funds as they could. Their efforts culminated in a heartfelt donation that moved the owners deeply.

These Ritz Cracker Sandwiches Vanish Before the Party Starts

Ritz Party Sandwiches transform familiar buttery crackers into warm, savory appetizers that are exactly the right size for grabbing from a crowded table. Cheese and flavorful sandwich fillings sit between pairs of crackers, creating miniature bites with a crisp exterior and rich center. As they bake, the cheese melts, the filling warms, and the crackers become even more aromatic without losing the delicate texture that makes Ritz crackers so recognizable. Each small sandwich delivers salt, butter, cheese, and savory flavor in one or two bites, which explains why people rarely stop after taking only one. The recipe does not require elaborate pastry, specialty bread, or hours of preparation, yet the completed tray looks more thoughtful than simply opening a box of crackers. It is party food built around convenience without tasting like the cook took an obvious shortcut.

Remember the White Candy That Seemed to Appear in Every Grandma’s Christmas Tin?

Divinity is one of those old-fashioned candies that can instantly bring back a kitchen you haven’t stood in for years. Light, fluffy, and almost cloud-like, it’s nothing like dense fudge or chewy caramel. The outside sets with a delicate finish while the center stays soft and airy, with that unmistakable melt-away sweetness that made it a holiday candy-table favorite. It looks deceptively simple, but anyone who grew up watching a grandmother, aunt, or church-supper expert make a batch probably remembers there was a little technique involved. When it turns out right, those snowy spoonfuls look beautiful piled onto a platter—and somehow taste even better after you’ve spent years wondering why people stopped making them.

Four Ingredients Make This Lemon Cake Almost Unfair

A dessert with only four ingredients should not taste this rich, but lemon pie filling, cream cheese, cake mix, and butter know exactly how to work together. The lemon creates a bright, tangy layer while the cream cheese adds pockets of smooth richness. Cake mix and melted butter form a golden topping with soft sections, crisp edges, and the comforting flavor of a homemade cobbler. Every spoonful lands differently depending on how much citrus, cream cheese, and buttery crust it captures. The result feels more complicated than the assembly suggests, making this recipe ideal when time is short but dessert still needs to impress. As it bakes, the lemon bubbles around the edges and the top becomes golden, filling the kitchen with an aroma that makes waiting considerably more difficult.

The Soup I Make When a Light Little Bowl Isn’t Going to Count as Dinner

Some soups leave you looking for a sandwich ten minutes later. This creamy sausage soup isn’t interested in being one of them. Savory sausage gives the whole pot a rich, smoky backbone while a velvety broth turns it into the kind of spoon-coating comfort food that feels substantial from the first bowl. Everything comes together in one pot, letting those browned sausage bits and seasonings work their way through the creamy base instead of disappearing down the drain with another dirty pan. Serve it bubbling hot with crusty bread and you’ve got exactly what a cold, tired evening calls for: something creamy, hearty, and satisfying enough that nobody asks what else is for dinner.

This Strawberry Dessert Never Goes Near the Oven

Strawberry Delight earns its name by turning a few familiar ingredients into a creamy dessert that looks far more involved than it really is. A ready-made graham cracker crust supports a light cream cheese filling, while a glossy layer of fresh strawberries adds bright color and juicy fruit flavor. The combination gives you buttery crumbs, smooth filling, and fresh berries in every forkful without asking you to bake cake layers or manage a complicated cheesecake. Because the dessert is chilled, it tastes especially refreshing when the weather is warm and a heavy baked dessert feels unnecessary. The strawberries remain the visual star, but the tang from the cream cheese keeps their sweetness balanced and makes the finished dessert taste richer than an ordinary fruit pie.

7 Christmas Candies Mothers Made at the Kitchen Table

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas from the 1950s into the 1980s, the kitchen in plenty of American homes shifted into a different gear. Cookies went first, then candy, and candy was a different kind of work. It called for a thermometer, the heaviest pot you owned, a marble slab or a sheet of buttered foil, and real attention. Women swapped these recipes on index cards at the church bazaar or through the small spiral-bound cookbooks their church and club auxiliaries printed and sold. When the candy was done it went into a tin on wax paper, stacked in layers by type, and passed along to neighbors or kept on the counter through the holiday.
