Plano Swim Nonprofit Is Building Its First Pool — Now It Needs Help Funding It

F or more than five decades, the City of Plano Swimmers has taught generations of North Texas residents to swim. But the nonprofit has never had a pool of its own. That is finally changing. City of Plano Swimmers, better known as COPS, is building the Center of Performance Swimming, a 30,000-square-foot aquatic facility designed to expand swim lessons, competitive training and adult programs in Plano. Construction began in March, with completion currently expected in December 2026. But with construction already underway, rising costs have left the organization seeking additional community support to get the project across the finish line. “The capital requirements have been difficult to manage,” COPS Executive Director Barbara Roselli told Local Profile . “When we first signed our lease and made the plans, we had been very good stewards of our money. We had the money in the bank and that just hasn’t worked with all the price increases and everything.” The nonprofit's May funding plan estimated the project at $6.2 million, with COPS contributing $2.1 million of its own savings alongside fundraising, private loans and bank financing. Thousands of cases of canned dog food sold across the United States are being recalled because the products may contain metal. Wisconsin-based Fromm Family Foods is recalling 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pate Wet Dog Food and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pate Wet Dog Food. The company announced the recall on August 21, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration published the alert the same day.
