Frisco Residents Are Getting A 10% Trash Rate Cut

Frisco residents are about to pay a little less to have their trash and recycling hauled away. The Frisco City Council approved a new 10-year agreement with Waste Connections Lone Star during its Aug. 18 meeting, extending the company’s solid waste services through July 2037. The deal also comes with lower residential rates and a citywide replacement of trash and recycling carts. What Frisco Residents Will Pay Under the new agreement , the combined monthly residential rate will drop 10%, from $15.39 to $13.85 during the first year of the renewal. After that, the rate will be adjusted annually based on the consumer price index. Those adjustments will be capped between 1% and 5% in any given year. The new pricing follows a market analysis conducted by consulting firm Burns & McDonnell, which compared Frisco's rates with those in Allen, Coppell, McKinney, Prosper, Plano and Richardson. Allen was the only benchmark city with a lower residential rate. The analysis found Waste Connections' renewal proposal was competitive with the lowest rates in the region, while keeping the same provider would minimize disruption for residents and businesses. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.
