A fresh take on a neighborhood classic continues to make some of Phoenix's best Italian cuisine
On the edge of Paradise Valley, tucked along Tatum and Shea, a local Italian restaurant is writing its own story - one grounded in tradition, shaped by experience, and propelled by a steadfast conviction of what a neighborhood Italian restaurant should be.
Up until April 2024, this spot was known as Nick’s Italian, a beloved staple where Jason Brody had built a career from the ground up. He started right before his 16th birthday - first as a kid in the kitchen, eventually becoming the heartbeat behind the bar. For nearly two decades, he poured himself into the business, learning every facet of the restaurant world under the guidance of mentor and owner Nick. When the opportunity came to take the reins, Jason didn’t hesitate. Backed by encouragement from a loyal guest and friend, he made the leap, purchased the business in October 2022, and later gave it a new name that carried his legacy: Brody’s Italian.
The rebrand wasn’t about starting over - it was about owning the journey. “We’ve got so many regulars and such a great following that the transition was seamless,” Jason says. “We haven’t missed a beat.” That kind of loyalty doesn’t just happen. It’s earned through years of quality food, genuine connection, and the kind of hospitality that makes people feel like family.
Brody’s Italian leans into that neighborhood warmth but delivers with modern style. The menu reflects Jason’s passion for elevated comfort - classic Italian favorites reimagined with freshness in mind to produce slightly lighter fair that doesn't skip out on the bold flavor. Take the Chicken Parm, for example: a standout that skips the breading in favor of letting the quality shine. It's baked with house-made marinara, mozzarella, and parmesan until perfectly crisp on top, served with a choice of scratch-made pasta or sautéed vegetables. It’s familiar, yes - but never ordinary.
The vibe is just as balanced. There’s an extensive wine list, a craft cocktail program that surprises in all the right ways, and an atmosphere that invites everything from a casual Tuesday dinner to a celebratory Friday night. Brody’s feels like the kind of place where you can come as you are—and walk out a little more full, a little more connected.
Of course, the restaurant business is famously tough, and Jason knows it better than most. But he credits his long tenure and the support of his team—many of whom stayed on through the transition—for helping make Brody’s a smooth, successful evolution. “Each and every day is different in this business,” he says. “But there’s nothing better than seeing a guest light up talking about their experience here. That’s why we do it.”
Looking ahead, Jason’s ambition doesn’t stop at one location. He’s clear-eyed about the future: Brody’s Italian is just getting started. With dreams of multiple locations and a mission to keep raising the bar, he’s focused on building something lasting—something rooted in hospitality, excellence, and heart.
As Jason likes to say, “The windshield is bigger and brighter than the rear view mirror.” At Brody’s Italian, that means forward momentum with purpose, passion, and a little parmesan on top.
