City of Rock Island plans annual ‘Snow Road-eo’ training for snowplow drivers
By Linda Cook,
13 hours agoThe City’s Public Works Department holds a training every year to prepare snowplow drivers for navigating city roads during inclement weather.
This year, the training will be 8-11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Public Works Municipal Services Building, 100 6th Ave.
The Snow Road-eo includes competition among public works employees to prepare them for the upcoming winter season. The Road -eo is divided into three phases: a written exam, obstacle course and a walk around inspection of the vehicle. The public is welcome to watch.
Scores are given for each phase and the person with the highest score wins.
The annual training helps prepare snowplow drivers for the upcoming winter season. The obstacle course is designed to mimic curbs, mailboxes vehicles and other hazards a driver must navigate while plowing snow.
The highest-scoring drivers from the first round face off in a final competition for an overall winner.
