National Sandwich Day freebies and deals: Subway, Jersey Mike’s and more

By Adrienne Mitchel,

Here are food deals for National Sandwich Day

(SavorNation) - If you need a break from munching on Halloween candy, how about a sandwich? This year, National Sandwich Day falls on Election Day, and your favorite sandwich spots are offering BOGOs, discounts and even free sandwiches in celebration.

National Sandwich Day falls on the same day as the birthday of the man who many credit to be the inventor of the sandwich. John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, is rumored to have created the sandwich due to his penchant for gambling. Rather than take time away from the card table, he requested slices of meat between two slices of bread to eat while continuing to gamble.

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop

Rewards members can redeem a Buy One, Get One 50% off deal on all subs Tuesday when ordering in-shop, online or through the app.

Jersey Mike’s

Subway is giving its rewards members a free footlong sandwich when they purchase another footlong from now through Nov. 8. The sandwich chain has also brought back its Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub for the first time since 2014 and has brought back its Caramel Apple Cookie in celebration of National Sandwich Day.

These Ritz Cracker Sandwiches Vanish Before the Party Starts

Ritz Party Sandwiches transform familiar buttery crackers into warm, savory appetizers that are exactly the right size for grabbing from a crowded table. Cheese and flavorful sandwich fillings sit between pairs of crackers, creating miniature bites with a crisp exterior and rich center. As they bake, the cheese melts, the filling warms, and the crackers become even more aromatic without losing the delicate texture that makes Ritz crackers so recognizable. Each small sandwich delivers salt, butter, cheese, and savory flavor in one or two bites, which explains why people rarely stop after taking only one. The recipe does not require elaborate pastry, specialty bread, or hours of preparation, yet the completed tray looks more thoughtful than simply opening a box of crackers. It is party food built around convenience without tasting like the cook took an obvious shortcut.

This Herb Was Used for a Chesty Cough Before Cough Drops Existed

Mullein is that tall, fuzzy plant with the soft, silvery leaves that pops up along roadsides and in gardens. For centuries it was brewed into a tea for coughs and chesty colds, long before cough drops were sold in a bag. 😊

Whatever Happened to the Cake Everyone Bought at A&P?

For anyone who remembers Spanish Bar Cake, this one can unlock a very specific kind of nostalgia. That dark, warmly spiced cake with its soft, moist crumb and creamy frosting wasn’t flashy, but it had devoted fans who knew exactly what they were looking for in the bakery aisle. This homemade version brings that old favorite back with the cozy spice and rich cream cheese frosting that make each bite feel wonderfully old-fashioned. It’s the sort of cake that belongs beside a hot cup of coffee, preferably while somebody at the table says, “I haven’t had this in years.”

I Went To Italy and Was Given This Recipe From Our Bed and Breakfast Host

This Italian sausage pasta sauce was a real winner with my husband. I think he liked that it’s a meaty, creamy sauce instead of a traditional red sauce. Sausage, tomatoes, cream, and parmesan come together so it tastes like something from a little trattoria.

Grandma Was Right About Potatoes and Onions

Sometimes the most memorable food begins with ingredients so ordinary that their transformation feels almost unfair. Southern Fried Taters and Onions take potatoes, sliced onion, garlic, oil, salt, and pepper and turn them into a skillet full of golden edges, tender centers, and deep savory flavor. As the potatoes cook, some pieces crisp against the hot pan while others remain soft enough to soak up the sweetness released by the onions. That mix of textures is what makes a simple recipe so hard to leave alone. Every serving contains a few crunchy bites, several buttery-soft slices, and caramelized onion tucked between them. No cream sauce, specialty cheese, or expensive meat is required to make the skillet smell like a proper country breakfast or old-fashioned family supper.
