BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) -- Eight people were shot, one fatally, in an early-morning incident Sunday in Bloomington.
A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the McLean County Coroner, according to police. Another woman was transported to a regional trauma center and is listed in critical condition.
The other six victims sustained injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening at this time. This includes two Illinois Wesleyan University students, university officials said.
Illinois State University Police have said one student is among those injured. They said the student was treated and released from the hospital.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 1, officers were called to the 100 block of East Division Street on a report of several shots fired, said Bryce Janssen, a Bloomington Police Department spokesman. This is near Illinois Wesleyan University.
When police arrived, they found the victims, Janssen said.
The city received help with the crime scene from the Illinois State Police and the McLean County Sheriff's Office.
An autopsy is pending on the woman who was killed. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady released the following statement in response to the incident:
