West Burlington earns grant for Gear Avenue Industrial Infrastructure
By Linda Cook,
1 days agoThe City of West Burlington has been awarded a $1,624,210 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) for infrastructure improvements
serving the Gear Avenue Industrial Area, a news release says.
Combined with a $1,064,254 Iowa Department of Transportation RISE grant, the funding provides $2,688,464 and allows the city to move forward with the project, which includes construction of roadway, water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements needed to support industrial business development. These improvements will provide access and utilities to land available for industrial development, helping West Burlington compete for future business investment and employment opportunities.
“These grants allow us to move forward with the infrastructure needed to make this area ready for development,” said Gregg Mandsager, West Burlington city administrator. “Having roads and utilities in placeis an important step in attracting investment and creating opportunities for our community.”
Klinger will serve as the lead engineering firm, and Snyder & Associates will prepare the water and sewer plans. The city will work with the engineering team to advance project design and complete the required approvals before bidding and construction.
The EDA funding was awarded through its Economic Adjustment Assistance program. The Iowa DOT funding is provided through the Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) program.
