2 hours agoAs colder weather approaches, energy assistance is available to help offset winter heating costs.
The federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides funding to assist eligible households with home energy expenses.
- You must be a resident of Illinois and a U.S. citizen or legally admitted for permanent residence.
- You must live in the household and be responsible for paying the home energy/utility bill (or rent that includes utilities).
- Your household’s combined gross income for the 30 days prior to application must be at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or 60% of the State Median Income (SMI).
To apply, Illinois residents in Rock Island, Mercer and Henry counties can contact Project NOW at 309-793-6391. Residents can also call the Illinois LIHEAP hotline at 833-711-0374.
- Total household income for an applicant must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Eligible customers who need help with energy bills should apply for LIHEAP at a local community action outreach office.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services has additional information about the program. Eligibility requirements information is also available by dialing 211.
