New Iowa program to help fill national shortage of commercial truck drivers

A new program in Iowa takes aim at filling the national shortage of commercial truck drivers.

Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa opened a new Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training skid pad to help prospective drivers learn how to control a tractor-trailer when it loses traction. A $1 million federal investment for the community college's truck driver education center will pay for it. There's a reported need for 40,000 new truck drivers.
