Muscatine closes road due to instability

Muscatine has implemented an emergency road closure.

According to a release from the City of Muscatine, W. Mississippi Dr. between the 500 and 800 blocks is closed due to instability in the bluff area. The closure will remain in place until further notice.

Motorists are urged to use the designated detour routes and allow additional travel time.

Westbound traffic detour:

• Cedar St.
• 8th St.
• Main St.
• Hershey Ave.

Eastbound traffic detour:

• Main St.
• 8th St.
• Cedar St.
• Return to Mississippi Dr.

Commercial truck traffic:

• Semi-trucks entering Iowa via the Norbert F. Beckey Bridge will be diverted to Park Ave. and the U.S. 61 bypass.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible and follow all posted detour signs.
