Davenport is beginning its search for a new Corporation Counsel after the current counsel announced he is leaving the position.

A news release from the City of Davenport said Corporation Counsel Samuel Huff has accepted a new opportunity and will end his service with the city on November 6. He has served as Corporation Counsel since August 2024.

Huff provided essential legal guidance on key city initiatives during his tenure, supported City Council and staff and played a vital role in ensuring city operations were grounded in sound legal practice. He strengthened the legal department’s efficiency and long-term effectiveness by modernizing technology and improving workflows and records management to ensure information is easily accessible for future staff.

“Some of my proudest accomplishments include helping modernize the legal department, developing our attorneys and strengthening the team that serves the City of Davenport,” Huff said. “It has been a privilege to work with the Council and colleagues who care deeply about Davenport and those who call it home. That care comes through in the thought they put into difficult decisions and their determination to do right by this community.”

“We are grateful for Sam’s leadership and dedication. He has been a trusted advisor to the city and we wish him and his family the very best,” said Davenport Mayor Jason Gordon.

Details on the search for Davenport’s next Corporation Counsel will be shared as they become available.
