Greenvalley Sports Complex hosts Spooktacular Trunk or Treat
By Sharon Wren,
12 hours agoKick off Halloween celebrations early at the 7th annual Spooktacular Trunk or Treat at Greenvalley Sports Complex, 5920 52nd Avenue in Moline!
The family-friendly event will be on Friday, Oct. 23 from 5 – 7 p.m. Kids can dress up in costumes and walk through the parking lot to visit over 20 different vehicles while “trunk or treating” to collect candy. Attendees will need to park in the front lot and walk through the facility to the back lot and signs will be posted.
Local organizations and businesses will decorate their vehicles and hand out candy while meeting participants. Adults are asked not to collect candy for themselves. Visitors should be prepared to wait in line, especially if arriving before or right at 5 p.m. Restrooms will be available.
A costume contest and entertainment for all ages add to the fun. Cancellation/reschedule notice will be posted on Facebook in case of inclement weather.

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now
Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!
