St. Ambrose to build new $6 million Baseball Complex
By Gabe ZwierzynskiJoel Kellar,
9 hours agoSt. Ambrose University announced that it will be investing $6 million in a new baseball complex at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex. The new complex will continue St. Ambrose's partnership with Assumption High School.
Currently St. Ambrose does not have a baseball field for its players who play at various locations including Modern Woodmen, University of Iowa, and Black Hawk College. The new complex will allow students to play a home game without having to plan for extra travel time. Assumption students will also have the opportunity to play at the new facility once it is complete.
St. Ambrose University Chief Financial Officer Courtney Berg told Our Quad Cities News that the field will be an important recruitment tool for incoming talent and help to maintain current players.
St. Ambrose's Vice President of Advancement, Anne Gannaway told Our Quad Cities News that the university funded the complex through fundraising. "We're really fortunate at Saint Ambrose and the last few years have been our best years with fundraising. We've hit goals and had record breaking years. We have incredible benefactors, whether it's alumni or friends, community members, corporations, or foundations that are really believing in what we're visioning and our mission ultimately benefiting students."
The field will be all turf including bullpens, batting cages, dugouts, a scoreboard and grandstands. It will also include a building with concessions, storage, and restrooms. In addition, there will be renovations for track and field including a shot put disc and javelin area.
Construction is underway and is anticipated to be completed by August of 2027.
