Plan for Henderson County ambulance calls advances
By Gavin Waidelich,
16 hours agoOn Tuesday morning, the Henderson County Board voted to move forward with a plan to use ambulance services from Burlington, Iowa for 911 calls.
The board voted to approve a $400,000 yearly agreement with the City of Burlington and Burlington Fire Department.
A total of $200,000 could be cut from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office budget to help cover the cost. The agreement would end volunteer ambulance services in towns like Biggsville and Stronghurst.
Parts of Henderson County are up to 40 minutes away from Burlington. Biggsville's Ambulance Director Glenda Ehlen says that time could make all the difference.
"I'm worried for our citizens that there's going to be delayed response times," Ehlen told Our Quad Cities News. "The American Heart Association says good proper CPR should start within four to six minutes of downtime. That's not going to happen."
The next step is to finalize an agreement, which the board is expected to consider at its meeting Nov. 9.

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now
Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!
