Fire temporarily closes Big Apple Family Restaurant, Princeton
By Sharon Wren,
19 hours agoA Princeton restaurant that has been open for decades is temporarily closed after a fire in the dining room over the weekend.
A post on the Princeton Fire Department’s Facebook page said firefighters were called to the Big Apple Family Restaurant, 2136 N. Main Street, for a report of a structure fire on Oct. 10 at about 7:44 p.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke showing from the outside.
Crews located the fire in the dining room. It was brought under control by about 8:11 p.m. and extinguished by about 9 p.m. They checked for fire extension and ventilated the building after the fire was extinguished. The fire was contained to the dining area, which sustained heavy fire damage, but there was heat and smoke damage throughout the restaurant.
No injuries were reported to firefighters or civilians and an investigation showed that the cause of the fire was unintentional. A post on Big Apple’s Facebook page said the fire department and fire marshal inspected the scene and determined that the cause of the fire was an electrical issue in the ceiling.
“We are incredibly grateful to our emergency responders for their hard work and to our community for standing by us during this challenging time,” the post said. “For now, our focus is on healing and determining our next steps.”

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now
Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!
