Muscatine residents invited to give feedback on Isett Avenue Corridor
By Linda Cook,
16 hours agoThe City of Muscatine is inviting residents to attend a public open house and share their thoughts on the preliminary design for the Connect Isett Project, a reconstruction project of Isett Avenue and Cypress Street, a news release says.
The open house will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Musser Public Library, 408 E. 2nd St., Muscatine. All Muscatine residents and travelers on Isett Avenue are invited. In addition to the open house, residents are asked to share their comments on the project and complete a survey to indicate design preferences.
If you are unable to attend the open house information and survey can be found on the city’s website here.
Connect Isett is a city project focused on roadway improvements for 1.7 miles of the Isett Avenue corridor from Isett Avenue and U.S. Highway 61 to Cypress and East 5th Streets. Isett Avenue is an important north-south corridor through the city that serves as a crucial link for businesses and residents and is a gateway to the Muscatine community. These improvements include enhanced safety, improved lane and intersection configurations, bridge improvements, enhanced aesthetics and overall improved facilities.
Prior to design, the city collected data on traffic volume and flow through the corridor, conducted field studies to gain a better understanding of the natural and built environment, and collaborated with stakeholders located near the corridor. Project planning, environmental review, and design are funded through a $2 million federal Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant funds design activities only.
Construction funding has not yet been secured. The city is evaluating potential local, state, regional, and federal funding opportunities for future construction phases. The project is currently in design, which is expected to continue into 2027. Construction will occur in phases after construction funding is secured. Specific construction dates have not yet been established.

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now
Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue (YGRR) is looking for a patient foster or adoptive home for Esse, a five-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who needs time and space to feel safe.
