Bettendorf announces fun Halloween happenings

The City of Bettendorf invites you to have a howlingly good time at these Halloween events throughout October:

🎃 Halloween Movie Night, Friday, October 2, 5:00 p.m., The Landing, 2255 Middle Rd. Activities and free food. At sundown, enjoy "Hocus Pocus" on the big screen! Price is $5 per person at the door.

🎃 Mad Scientist STEAM Lab, Saturday, October 10, 3:00-4:30 p.m., Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Dr. Celebrate Halloween by conducting science experiments and Halloween-themed STEAM activities, including frankenworms, candy corn slime, magnetic flying ghosts, LED circuit jack-o-lanterns and fizzy pumpkin chemical reactions!

🎃 Haunted Hike, Saturday, October 10, 30-minute hike times from 7:00-9:30 p.m., Crow Creek Park, 4701 Devils Glen Rd. Hike filled with eerie scenes, mysterious characters and intense, sudden scares brought to life by local performers from the Playcrafters Barn Theatre. Brief hayrack ride will transport guests from the parking area of Crow Creek Park to the start of the hike. Price is $10 per person. Register here.

🎃 Cake Decorating Workshop, Thursday, October 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Bettendorf Community Center, 2204 Grant St. This guided class will walk you step-by-step as you design a hauntingly delightful cake from instructor Addie Corby. Price is $70 for two people. Register here.

🎃 Morbid Curiosities - An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe, Thursday, October 15, 6:30-8:00 p.m., Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Dr. Edgar Allen Poe, the master of Gothic horror, comes from beyond the veil to talk with audiences about his life and share his best stories and poetry, including "The Masque of the Red Death," "The Raven" and "The Tell-Tale Heart." Performed by professional storyteller Darrin Crow.

🎃 Young Artists Paint Party, Saturday, October 17, 10:00 a.m.-noon. Bettendorf Community Center, 2204 Grant St. Paint an enchanted forest owl with Karie Rauch. All materials and instructions are provided. Pizza will be provided at the end of the event as the paintings dry. Price is $40 per person. Register here.

🎃 Halloween-Themed Roller Skating Party, Saturday, October 17, 5:00-9:00 p.m., The Landing, 2255 Middle Rd. Skaters can dress up in costumes to skate to Halloween-themed music for The Landing’s final roller skating party of the season. Price is $5 per person.

🎃 Scarecrow Shenanigans, Sunday, October 18, 1:00-4:00 p.m., Family Museum, 2900 Learning Campus Dr. Enjoy art, science, a special performance by the Family Museum Dance Company and more. Event is free for Family Museum Members, $12 for non-members. Tickets required for everyone; can be reserved starting October 1.

🎃 City Hall-o-ween, Friday, October 23, 9:00-11:00 a.m., Bettendorf City Hall, 1609 State St. Kids five and under can test out their costumes and go trick-or-treating in a safe, welcoming and warm environment. City Hall will be decorated and city staff will be handing out treats! Event is free.

🎃 Junior Chefs Cooking Class, Saturday, October 24, 10:00-11:30 a.m., Family Museum, 2900 Learning Campus Dr. On the menu are green apple meanies, mandarin orange jack-o-lanterns, chocolate bat cupcakes and eyeball cookies! Price is $40 per person. Register here.

🎃 Halloween Parade, Saturday, October 24, 6:30 p.m. (no rain date), 18th St., Spruce Hills Dr. and Middle Rd. Parade begins at 18th St. from Bettendorf Middle School’s north parking lot. Procession travels up 18th St., turns right at Spruce Hills Dr., turns right on Middle Rd. and finishes in Bettendorf Middle School’s south parking lot. Road closures begin at approximately 6:15 p.m., and roads will be reopened as the parade passes the main intersections. Register here by October 19.

🎃 Trick-or-Treating, Saturday, October 31, 5:00-7:30 p.m.

🎃 The Great Pumpkin Drop, Saturday, November 7, 11:00 a.m., Family Museum, 2900 Learning Campus Dr. Don't know what to do with leftover pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns? Watch them drop over the ledge at the Family Museum and smash to smithereens! Pumpkin collection is from 9:00-10:45 a.m. in the Great Hall.
