What’s ahead for replacing the Centennial Bridge?

A crucial artery in the Quad Cities needs to be replaced - the Centennial Bridge is near the end of its useful life.
The Illinois Department of Transportation has narrowed the plan down to a couple of options and brought them to Rock Island City Council. Transportation officials say the two most viable options involve a complete replacement, which are different in their locations.
One proposal would build a new bridge just west of the existing bridge. That project could cost about $240 million. It would have the smallest impact on traffic flow, homes and businesses.
The other proposal would have a new bridge connecting 11th street in Rock Island to Marquette St. in Davenport. That project would involve displacing several homes and businesses with a price tag of about $300 million.
The project is currently only in the early planning stages.
