Two injured in motorcycle incident near Pleasant Valley High
By Sharon Wren,
16 hours agoTwo people were injured in an incident between a motorcycle and a minivan near Pleasant Valley High School this morning.
A news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office said Scott Emergency Communications Center received a report of an injury accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in front of Pleasant Valley High School on September 1 at about 7:38 a.m. Scott County Sheriff's Office School Resource Deputies from Pleasant Valley High School and Scott Community College were first on the scene and found the motorcycle riders had sustained injuries.
An investigation showed that a Honda motorcycle was driven by a woman, with her son also riding. The driver was not wearing a helmet, but the boy was wearing one. The investigation showed that a Chrysler Pacifica, driven by a woman, was pulling out of the high school parking lot, turning left to head west, and failed to yield to the motorcycle, which was traveling east on Belmont Road.
There was no actual collision between the two vehicles, the release said. The van was able to stop in time, but the motorcycle took evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision, causing it to lay down on its side. The driver sustained a head injury and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to local hospital for treatment. Their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The driver of the van was uninjured.
The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. The Scott County Sheriff's Office, Riverdale Fire Department, Bettendorf Police Department and Scott County MEDIC Ambulance assisted at the scene.
