The condition, which can cause <a href="https://www.merriam-webster.com/medical/hyperemesis" rel="nofollow">excessive vomiting</a> with recurring bouts of severe stomach pain and nausea, was first detected in Australia two decades ago. Some have referred to a combination of CHS symptoms – screaming, <a href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21665-cannabis-hyperemesis-syndrome" rel="nofollow">due to the intense pain</a>, and vomiting – as <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5632524-scromiting-emergency-department-visits/" rel="nofollow">"scromiting."</a></p><p>Hot showers and baths are often described as the only way to mitigate the discomfort.&nbsp;In rare cases, the condition has resulted in death, health officials said.</p><a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/nexstar_media_wire/5740359-cannabis-hyperemesis-syndrome-is-on-the-rise-what-symptoms-to-watch-for/" class="promo-link__link" target="&quot;_blank&quot;" rel="nofollow"> Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome is on the rise: What symptoms to watch for </a><p>“[Patients] are not high in any fashion and in fact are in significant distress with uncontrolled vomiting, gagging, hurling, and pain,” Dr. Sam Torbati, the medical director of the Ruth and Harry Roman Emergency Department at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, explained to Nexstar via email. He sees patients already diagnosed with or presenting with suspected cases of cannabis hyperemesis arrive in his emergency department weekly. </p><p>It’s not limited to his emergency department either. </p><p>Virginia authorities reported that emergency department visits for CHS <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5734241-cannabis-hyperemesis-syndrome-scromiting-cases-surge-virginia/" rel="nofollow">have jumped almost 29%</a> since 2020. Significant spikes have also been reported in<a href="https://journals.lww.com/ajg/abstract/2025/12000/increasing_prevalence_of_cannabinoid_hyperemesis.35.aspx" rel="nofollow"> Massachusetts</a>,<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0376871624013437" rel="nofollow"> Northern California</a>, and parts of North Carolina. An official at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina,<a href="https://corporate.dukehealth.org/news/patients-cannabis-related-illness-are-presenting-more-frequently-duke-health-emergency" rel="nofollow"> said last summer</a> that patients with CHS are seen "every week, if not every day." </p><div style="position:relative;width:100%; height:0; padding-bottom: 56.25%;"><iframe src="https://www.ourquadcities.com/nxs-video/vid-anvato-8993997/embed/?post_id=3125478&amp;injected_via=feed&amp;autoplay=false&amp;preroll=true" allowfullscreen="true" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox" style="width:100%; height:100%;top:0; left:0; position:absolute"></iframe></div><p>In October, the World Health Organization added CHS to its diagnostic manual, a move meant to make <a href="https://adai.uw.edu/icd-10-code-chs/" rel="nofollow">it easier for health care providers</a> to report the specific diagnosis rather than an overview of a patient's symptoms. Patients may have otherwise been misdiagnosed as having another condition, like cyclic vomiting syndrome, according to a <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2841769" rel="nofollow">2025 study</a>. </p><p>A <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/75/wr/mm7530a2.htm" rel="nofollow">new report</a> from the CDC found that, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/nexstar_media_wire/5740359-cannabis-hyperemesis-syndrome-is-on-the-rise-what-symptoms-to-watch-for/" rel="nofollow">as expected</a>, emergency department visits involving CHS increased in the months after the WHO’s update. While researchers noted the rise “[suggests] improved recognition” of CHS, it could indicate that “the public health impact” of the condition was previously underestimated. </p><p>The report also showed a concerning trend.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">Younger age groups see spike in cases</h2><p>Health experts have frequently described CHS as occurring in long-time, chronic cannabis users. A George Washington University <a href="https://emed.smhs.gwu.edu/news/painful-syndrome-sending-cannabis-users-er-are-you-risk" rel="nofollow">study</a> of more than 1,000 people who reported experiencing CHS found that over 40% said they used marijuana more than five times a day. Roughly the same proportion of people said they had regularly used marijuana for more than five years before experiencing CHS. </p><p>However, the CDC’s latest report found “higher proportions” of emergency department visits involving CHS among younger persons. </p><p>From January 2023 to September 2025, patients between the ages of 15 and 24 had the highest average proportion of monthly emergency department visits at nearly 10 per 10,000. After the diagnostic code for CHS was introduced back in October, the CDC found that the rate jumped to nearly 39 per 10,000.&nbsp;The next–highest age group, 25- to 34-year-olds, had a rate of 28 per 10,000.</p><p>For comparison, the national average rate was 3.19 per 10,000 between 2023 and 2025. It jumped to nearly 12 per 10,000 in the eight months after the WHO’s update, the CDC determined.</p><a href="https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/6033834-gas-prices-are-rising-but-drivers-using-this-type-of-fuel-have-it-worse/" class="promo-link__link" target="&quot;_blank&quot;" rel="nofollow"> Gas prices are rising, but drivers using this type of fuel have it worse </a><p>The increase in younger people diagnosed with the syndrome “was actually one of the surprising findings for us,” CDC's Alana Vivolo-Kantor, the study's first author, told The Associated Press.</p><p>“Because the assumption going in was, ‘well, how can they have chronic use?’” she said. “How early were they using cannabis?”</p><p>Researchers noted the trend, explaining that “emerging evidence indicates that symptom onset can occur much sooner than was previously estimated, including within the first year of cannabis use.”</p><p>The report theorized that, among younger people, there may be changes in cannabis use behavior, like starting at an earlier age and using “evolving methods of use” like vaping or higher-potency products. </p><a href="https://thehill.com/business/personal-finance/6032428-want-to-live-comfortably-in-your-state-how-much-you-have-to-earn-per-a-new-study/" class="promo-link__link" target="&quot;_blank&quot;" rel="nofollow"> Want to ‘live comfortably’ in your state? How much you have to earn, per a new study </a><p>Torbati agreed. </p><p>“Older data suggested CHS to occur after prolonged use but we are now seeing patients with CHS after only a few years of heavy cannabinoid use. This may be due to the higher potency of [marijuana] products which have much higher THC concentrations than in the past,” he said.</p><p>Recent studies had warned that younger people could be more at risk of experiencing CHS. </p><p>A <a href="https://journals.lww.com/ajg/abstract/2025/12000/increasing_prevalence_of_cannabinoid_hyperemesis.35.aspx" rel="nofollow">study out of Massachusetts</a> found that younger adults, ages 18 to 34, could be at a higher risk of experiencing CHS, as could Hispanic and Black individuals. A <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0735675725004486#s0020" rel="nofollow">similar 2025 study</a> of nationwide data found CHS was most common among those ages 16 to 34 and corresponded with heavier cannabis use. The same study found CHS was "notably more prevalent in the South," but that those who reported the highest rates of cannabis use were in states that have legalized recreational cannabis, which are primarily in other regions. </p><p>Still, Torbati said that the condition impacts only a small proportion of people who use cannabis products. It's also possible that a chronic user never develops CHS, <a href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21665-cannabis-hyperemesis-syndrome" rel="nofollow">health experts say</a>. </p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">How does CHS present?</h2><p>It’s not clear exactly how marijuana products cause CHS, though <a href="https://www.cedars-sinai.org/health-library/diseases-and-conditions/c/cannabinoid-hyperemesis-syndrome.html" rel="nofollow">Cedars Sinai</a> said it may be brought on by receptors in the brain no longer responding to marijuana as they had before. </p><p>CHS can occur in three phases: prodromal, hyperemetic, and recovery. </p><p>During the first, which "may last for months or years," patients can experience belly pain and nausea in the morning. This may lead to increased marijuana use, as it is often used to treat such symptoms. </p><a href="https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/6027550-super-el-nino-may-be-strongest-since-1950-when-will-it-peak-hit-the-us/" class="promo-link__link" target="&quot;_blank&quot;" rel="nofollow"> ‘Super’ El Niño may be strongest since 1950. When will it peak, hit the US? </a><p>In the hyperemetic phase, symptoms <a href="https://gi.org/topics/cannabinoid-hyperemesis-and-the-cyclic-vomiting-syndrome-in-adults/" rel="nofollow">can become worse</a> and progress to vomiting that is "overwhelming" and "recurrent," lasting about a day or two. Patients may feel the need to bathe frequently, as hot water has been known to ease their nausea. It's during this phase that health experts say patients typically seek medical care. </p><p>During the final phase, recovery, symptoms fade over time before disappearing as the patient stops using any and all forms of cannabis. Symptoms are known to return if they try marijuana again, however. </p><p>“[The] majority of patients have been diagnosed with CHS in the past and are either in denial or unable to stop use of marijuana products,” he explained. “These patients often will not provide accurate drug use histories, making the clinician’s job more challenging, often leading to unnecessary testing such as imaging with CT or ultrasound to rule out other conditions.”</p><p>They may further require “help from drug treatment specialists.” </p><p>While there are treatment options to control the symptoms patients can experience, the “long term cure to this condition requires abstinence from cannabinoid products,” Torbati said. </p><p>The CDC report, meanwhile, argued that there is a need to raise awareness of the condition among healthcare providers and the public, “but further education efforts might be needed to prevent the cause of CHS: cannabis use.”</p><p>Researchers also called for continued surveillance of the condition, “including the potential role of high-potency THC and hemp-derived products.”</p><p>If you believe you're experiencing symptoms of CHS, health experts recommend speaking with your doctor. </p><em>Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. Cases of ‘scromiting’ condition tied to cannabis use spike among teens, young adults: New study

Some people at the time <a href="https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ952289" rel="nofollow">thought a person’s character could be evaluated</a> based on the quality of their cursive.</p><p>In the first half of the 20th century, penmanship was often taught as a distinct subject in American elementary schools, where children could spend as much as 45 minutes a day on <a href="https://www.csmonitor.com/2007/1114/p13s01-legn.html?" rel="nofollow">handwriting instruction</a> and practice.</p><p>Students during these years generally learned print in kindergarten, first and second grade. Cursive was typically introduced in third or a later grade, in part because some <a href="https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Simplifying+handwriting+instruction+for+the+21st+century.-a015524393" rel="nofollow">child development researchers at the time believed</a> that writing in print <a href="https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED016575.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com" rel="nofollow">was easier</a> for young children to learn and aligned with the fonts they found when reading.</p><p>I am a product of this system, <a href="https://thepalmermethod.com/" rel="nofollow">learning cursive</a> in third grade and winning awards for my excellent cursive penmanship from the retired nuns who once worked in my Catholic school. Now, I am a <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Z5NzIncAAAAJ&amp;hl=en" rel="nofollow">clinical professor of literacy studies and a teacher-educator</a>, who researches reading and writing.</p><p>My experience is no longer typical, though, <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/education/long-held-tradition-cursive-handwriting-slowly-dying-america?" rel="nofollow">as cursive instruction has become less popular</a> over the past few decades. Some states and schools, though, are reconsidering the value of cursive for today’s students.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">A shift away from cursive</h2><p>By the 1980s, the instructional time dedicated to cursive instruction in some schools <a href="https://www.journals.uc.edu/index.php/vl/article/view/5506/4370" rel="nofollow">had been reduced from 45 minutes a day to 30-60 minutes per week</a>.</p><p>And the time allotted kept falling, in part because of the 1990s standards-based movement, which <a href="https://www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/opinion-deciding-on-essential-knowledge/1999/04" rel="nofollow">created school curricula overcrowded with content</a>.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.nctm.org/Standards-and-Positions/Principles-and-Standards/Data-Analysis-and-Probability/" rel="nofollow">new math standards</a> called for data analysis and probability to be incorporated into mathematics education beginning in the early grades, including kindergarten. The social studies standards, meanwhile, reflected a broader approach to history that brought greater attention to figures such as <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/magazine/989723/the-history-standards/" rel="nofollow">Mansa Musa</a>, the <a href="https://www.socialstudies.com/pdf/NH108EX.pdf?srsltid=AfmBOooyMJE3gjbi8DIWSD39tacrY4VfSpWj2KzxaoTd6wvoZIJWqe9W" rel="nofollow">leader of the Mali empire</a> in the early 1300s.</p><p>At the same time, computers <a href="https://doi.org/10.30935/cedtech/6040" rel="nofollow">became more widely available in schools and in homes</a>, making the ability to type on keyboards seem like a necessary skill.</p><p>Cursive began to seem antiquated.</p><p>The Common Core state standards, <a href="https://www.gse.harvard.edu/ideas/ed-magazine/14/09/what-happened-common-core" rel="nofollow">a nationwide set of academic learning standards for K–12 students</a>, were adopted in some fashion by 45 states between 2009 and 2014. These standards called for kids to learn how to type on keyboards, ensuring that whatever valuable teaching time was left for transcription would be spent on <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2003/07/20/e-mail-may-delete-cursive/66323f86-a564-4e27-9d85-f9e5948e18a6/" rel="nofollow">learning how to type</a>.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">A return to cursive?</h2><p>It did not take long for the pendulum to begin to swing back in favor of cursive in the early 2010s.</p><p>Framed as a back-to-basics issue, North Carolina passed the first cursive law in 2013. It required students to read and <a href="https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/local/back-to-basics-nc-requires-learning-cursive-times-tables/275-325384989" rel="nofollow">write in cursive by the end of fifth grade</a>.</p><p>The law also required children to memorize their multiplication tables.</p><p>By 2015, 14 other states had some kind of <a href="https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED588525.pdf" rel="nofollow">cursive instruction requirement on the books</a>.</p><p>As of 2026,<a href="https://www.nea.org/nea-today/all-news-articles/why-cursive-back-classroom" rel="nofollow"> more than 25 states</a>, including Pennsylvania, Florida, California and Michigan, <a href="https://penncapital-star.com/briefs/cursive-handwriting-is-set-for-a-comeback-in-pennsylvania-schools/%20OR" rel="nofollow">require cursive instruction</a>.</p><p>Lawmakers cite several reasons for mandating cursive in schools.</p><p><a href="https://penncapital-star.com/briefs/cursive-handwriting-is-set-for-a-comeback-in-pennsylvania-schools/" rel="nofollow">Pennsylvania and</a><a href="https://www.wlrn.org/government-politics/2026-01-23/cursive-writing-bill-swoops-to-house-floor" rel="nofollow">Florida legislators</a> argue, for example, that an informed citizenry needs to be able to read historical documents, which are often written in cursive script.</p><p>In 2025, a Michigan representative suggested that reading cursive was also essential to preserving family history. Her granddaughter was able to read a letter that her deceased father, the lawmaker’s son, had written in cursive only because her school <a href="https://upnorthlive.com/news/local/should-cursive-be-taught-michigan-lawmaker-pushes-to-revive-cursive-writing-in-schools" rel="nofollow">still chose to teach the skill</a>.</p><p>A California assembly member had more modern realities in mind, suggesting that cursive could be used to ensure students aren’t using artificial intelligence to <a href="https://www.edweek.org/policy-politics/is-cursive-making-a-comeback-in-california-bill-could-revitalize-traditional-writing-skills/2023/09?" rel="nofollow">complete their schoolwork</a>.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">Benefits of cursive</h2><p>Being able to write in cursive can have benefits for learners.</p><p>A 2020 study conducted in Norway hooked up 12 adults and 12 preteens to brain-imaging devices while they <a href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7399101/" rel="nofollow">wrote in cursive, drew and typed</a>.</p><p>They found that writing in cursive activates the brain waves and neural pathways used for learning and for memory. Learning to write in cursive is also associated with <a href="https://www.intechopen.com/chapters/35808" rel="nofollow">better outcomes for learners with dyslexia and dysgraphia</a>, a neurological learning disability that makes writing difficult.</p><p>Other studies have shown cursive’s impact on writing fluency and quality. <a href="https://doi.org/10.1123/jmld.2012-0001" rel="nofollow">Some studies show</a> that <a href="https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0209978" rel="nofollow">cursive can help people write faster</a>, while other <a href="https://eric.ed.gov/?id=ED056015" rel="nofollow">studies have found</a> that <a href="https://nha-handwriting.org.uk/handwriting/articles/continuous-cursive-cure-or-curse/" rel="nofollow">children writing in cursive may not</a> have a speed advantage.</p><p>First graders in Portugal who were taught cursive wrote in longer “bursts,” which the <a href="https://doi.org/10.1037/a0019318" rel="nofollow">researchers attributed to the unbroken flow of cursive writing</a>.</p><p>There’s even research suggesting that cursive gives an early boost to students’ reading skills, not just their composition skills. <a href="https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0209978" rel="nofollow">A 2019 study of 141 first graders found</a> that children taught cursive read better by the end of the school year than classmates who weren’t.</p><p><a href="https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2013.00567" rel="nofollow">One theory is that</a> learning cursive trains the brain to process letters more effectively.</p><figure class="wp-block-image"><a href="https://images.theconversation.com/files/754852/original/file-20260819-60-c9k905.jpg?ixlib=rb-4.1.1&amp;q=45&amp;auto=format&amp;w=1000&amp;fit=clip" rel="nofollow"></a><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Learning cursive has various benefits, including being able to easily read and understand old documents and letters. <a href="https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/the-art-of-handwriting-still-life-royalty-free-image/2265880397?phrase=cursive%20letters&amp;searchscope=image%2Cfilm&amp;adppopup=true" rel="nofollow">Douglas Sacha/Moment via Getty Images</a></figcaption></figure><h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cursive in today’s world</h2><p>Not everyone is convinced cursive deserves a comeback tour.</p><p>For starters, the science is shakier than cursive’s champions let on. There’s <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390/life15030345" rel="nofollow">solid evidence</a> that handwriting beats typing for learning and memory. What’s much less clear is <a href="https://doi.org/10.1080/19411243.2022.2084487" rel="nofollow">whether cursive specifically has an edge</a> over ordinary print.</p><p>It is possible that much of the recent brain research getting <a href="https://www.pahousegop.com/News/37517/Latest-News/Watros-Cursive-Bill-Becomes-Law-" rel="nofollow">cited in statehouses from Pennsylvania</a><a href="https://www.nea.org/nea-today/all-news-articles/why-cursive-back-classroom" rel="nofollow">to California</a> was done on kids printing their letters, not looping them together.</p><p>Still, teaching cursive in today’s schools is not necessarily simple.</p><p>Many of today’s teachers, and many of tomorrow’s, never learned cursive themselves, which means states are now asking educators to teach a skill they don’t have. Then there’s the question of time. Because the bacteria are microscopic, they cannot be seen in the water.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">How does someone find out they have it?</h2><p>Symptoms of&nbsp;Vibrio vulnificus&nbsp;infection come on suddenly, usually within 24 hours after coming in contact with the bacteria. </p><p>Early signs of an infection, and when you should see a doctor, include fever, chills and hot red areas on the skin that start to turn dark and blister after an open wound comes in contact with water, or if you've recently eaten or touched raw seafood.</p><p>Other symptoms can include nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, confusion or a fast heart rate.</p><p>According to <a href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24884-vibrio-vulnificus" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Cleveland Clinic,</a> it's important to go to the ER as soon as possible, as symptoms worsen quickly and can be fatal. </p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">How is it diagnosed?</h2><p>Doctors can diagnose a Vibrio vulnificus infection using blood, tissue or other body-fluid samples.</p><p>Because the infection can worsen rapidly and become life-threatening, experts recommend going to the emergency room as soon as symptoms appear. Treatment typically involves antibiotics.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">Who is the most at risk?</h2><p>People with open wounds should avoid coastal waters, according to the CDC. Officials say people can also be exposed when unhealed cuts and scrapes, recent piercings and tattoos and recent surgical incisions touch contaminated water.</p><p>The CDC says people should immediately wash cuts and scrapes thoroughly with soap and clean running water after coming in contact with coastal waters or raw seafood. </p><p>Most people become infected by eating raw or undercooked shellfish, particularly oysters, according to <a href="https://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/disease/vibrio-infections/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">the Florida Department of Health</a>.</p><p>People with conditions that weaken or alter the immune system are also at risk, including people with liver diseases, chronic kidney failure an diabetes, according to Cleveland Clinic. </p><p>Experts say men are more likely to get a serious infection than women. People who work with raw shellfish or seawater are also at higher risk.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">What does it feel like to have flesh-eating bacteria?</h2><p>Ben West, a survivor who spoke with <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/health/flesh-eating-bacteria-survivor-ben-west/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">NewsNation's Elizabeth Vargas</a>, said his infection began with a painful blister that developed on his leg after a fishing trip along Florida's Gulf Coast.</p><p><a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/health/flesh-eating-bacteria-survivor-ben-west/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">West</a> described it as "the worst pain" he had ever experienced.</p><a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/health/should-you-avoid-beach-flesh-eating-bacteria/" class="promo-link__link" target="&quot;_blank&quot;" rel="nofollow"> Should you worry about ‘flesh-eating’ bacteria at the beach? </a><h2 class="wp-block-heading">How do I stay safe?</h2><p>Experts say there’s no need for most people to avoid the beach altogether, as Vibrio infections remain extremely rare. Most recipes call for cold cuts, cheese, lettuce, some type of sandwich dressing, and, most importantly, an entire bag of crushed-up potato chips to dump the aforementioned ingredients into.</p><p>The resulting meal is usually eaten directly out of the bag with a fork.</p><p>“I’m someone that loves to put chips on my sandwiches already, so having this already done, on-the-go, [is] perfect,” TikTok reviewer Amanda Palmeri <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@amandapalmeri/video/7642468316916747550" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">said</a> of a chip-bag sandwich she ordered from Yaphank Deli in Yaphank, New York.</p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=0qgeXp_1ETXT0UU00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0qgeXp_1ETXT0UU00" width="1030" height="736" ><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Yaphank Deli claims to be the originator of the chip-bag sandwich, and uses Hal's — a local potato chip brand — exclusively. Most iterations call for ingredients like mortadella, salami, provolone, lettuce, pepperoncini peppers and a splash of red wine vinegar, which are either mixed directly into the chip bag or placed in a mixing bowl with the chips, and then transferred back into the bag.</p><p>Yaphank Deli, mentioned above, claims to be the originator of “chip-bag sandwich.” Jenn Flynn, the co-owner of the family-run deli, told Nexstar that demand for the item exploded since posting a video of the offering to TikTok in April.</p><p>“It blew up. Initial work on the project began earlier this month.</p><p>With an anticipated opening in late 2027, the Charger Center will include:</p><ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Two wood-floor gymnasiums for athletic competitions and large events</li><li>An additional gymnasium with multi-purpose flooring</li><li>Fitness and training areas</li><li>A golf simulator room</li><li>An e-sports arena</li><li>Multi-purpose areas</li><li>Turf fields for baseball, softball and soccer.</li></ul><p>Designed by Legat Architects, the Charger Center will be located in the southeast portion of the Galesburg campus, next to building G. The front of the building will look across Tom L. Wilson Boulevard toward the rest of the Galesburg campus. Turf playing fields will be located on the south side of the Charger Center.</p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=0I9BxX_1ETLPWmp00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0I9BxX_1ETLPWmp00" width="1192" height="644" ><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Charger Center (Sandburg)</figcaption></figure><p>The new facility will be a dramatic upgrade from the current gymnasium, which has been the Chargers’ home since its opening in 1978, and the existing fitness center, which opened in the early 1990s. It’s the latest step in a campus master plan that has served as a roadmap for improvements and developments on Sandburg’s grounds in recent and coming years. Completed phases of the plan include the 2024 opening of the Science &amp; Technology Center and the 2025 unveiling of the renovated Student Center.</p><p>The new facility also will provide more opportunities for the college to host area youth and high school teams for practices, games and tournaments.
