The new Miss Scott County is breaking barriers at a young age.

Kenia Wilson, an Augustana College student studying communication, won the title of Miss Quad Cities USA in 2023. Wilson now works as a mayoral intern for Rock Island and is an office assistant at Genesis Care.

Wilson has been a dancer since she was two years old and says there's a lot more to pageants than beauty.

A widening food recall connected to a multistate Salmonella outbreak now covers dips, salsas, guacamole and prepared meals sold by some of America's largest grocery chains. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.
