Season Championship night rescheduled at Davenport Speedway

SR Promotions has announced that Season Championship night at Davenport Speedway has been rescheduled for Monday, Aug. 24, according to a news release.

The event was originally scheduled for Aug. 17 but was postponed because of rain.

Monday night racing is not uncommon at the Davenport track. Since the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds was constructed in 1920, Monday racing has occurred 62 times. This includes earlier this year when the Interstate Battery High Limit Sprint Cars came to town.

On Monday, Aug. 24, track, state, and national points will be paid in all IMCA classes racing at the Season Championships. Track champions will be crowned in six weekly classes: The Outhouse/Storage to Go - IMCA Late Models, the Midwest Recycler/Del’s Metal Co. IMCA Modifieds, the Koehler Electric Street Stocks, the Fred’s Towing/Cantrell’s Towing/Quad City Towing IMCA SportMods, the D&K Home Products IMCA Stock Cars, and the Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Before you head to the store to buy grapes again, here are 5 things that will be helpful to know. Besides the type of grape, this is the first thing I look at when shopping for grapes in the store. The freshest grapes in the grocery store are going to be ones where the stem is still green and is flexible. As the grapes age, the stem will lose its color and turn dark brown or black and become rigid. While the grapes may look and taste great, they won't last very long at that point so if you do buy them, eat them up quickly.

A Salmonella Recall Now Reaches Walmart, Target, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods

A widening food recall connected to a multistate Salmonella outbreak now covers dips, salsas, guacamole and prepared meals sold by some of America's largest grocery chains. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.
