QC man sentenced to federal prison for escaping from custody

A Quad Cities man was sentenced on Wednesday, Aug. 12, to three years in federal prison for escaping from custody, according to a news release.

According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Cedric Cornelius Shivers, 31, knowingly left a Davenport residential reentry center without authorization in October 2025. Shivers was required to reside at the residential reentry center because of his 2021 conviction for possessing a firearm as a felon. There is no parole in the federal system.

Shivers was located and arrested on March 15, 2026, in Illinois by East Moline law enforcement. Shivers resisted arrest and caused serious bodily injury to one of the officers, the release says.

United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of made the announcement. The United States Marshals Service investigated the case.

A Salmonella Recall Now Reaches Walmart, Target, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods

A widening food recall connected to a multistate Salmonella outbreak now covers dips, salsas, guacamole and prepared meals sold by some of America's largest grocery chains. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.
