Jenna Harrison, a DeWitt resident, is six years sober from being addicted to drugs. She was once in a dark place, but now she has kids and a loving family. Harrison wants to use her successful recovery to help other drug addicts, specifically expecting and new mothers.

“It’s a really under-served demographic,” said Harrison. “Rehabs are not really built for maternity or pre-natal.”

Harrison plans to use the new non-profit, Wildflowers and Wings, to create a sober living center for expecting and new mothers battling addiction.

“Bridge that gap and make sure that no mothers have to be without their babies,” said Harrison.

Harrison says the success that she has found in recovery has made her grateful for all the support she received during her journey. Now, she wants to pay that back. Harrison hopes Wildflowers and Wings can help create a path out for drug addicts seeking help.

“Now that our life is stable and we have a home and beautiful little four-year-old boy, I’m ready to do something back,” said Harrison. “For other women. I want to help other women.”

The sober-living center would provide support and give addicts a space away from temptation.

“I would like for these women to be able to return from the hospital and come back with these babies, remain on site with their babies in a sober living facility and enter into a long-term program where they’re able to have a long-term plan for success,” Harrison said of her plans.

Currently, Harrison is raising money to get Wildflowers and Wings classified as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. That means it would be an official charitable and tax-exempt organization. After that, she will focus on opening the sober-living space.
