Rock Island announces Thursday Night Groove schedule

The Thursday Night Groove Concert Series returns to the Ellis Kell Stage at Schwiebert Riverfront Park, 1^st Avenue and 18^th Street in Rock Island, next month. Concerts are free and appropriate for all ages. Concerts start at 6 p.m. with food and beer sales. A featured food truck will be on site each week, along with beer sales by Bent River Brewing Company, with both seasonal and year-round craft brews. Live performances will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

The concert schedule includes:

August 13 – LowDown Brass Band: Presented by Alternating Currents
August 20 – Fair Warning
August 27– Class of ’82
September 3 – Danny’s Book Club Band
September 10 – The Blackstones
September 17 – Dietz Soliz Band
September 24 – The Beth Lizano Band
October 1 – Crooked Cactus Band
October 8 – Funktastic 5

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and outside alcohol is not permitted. Event parking is available in the lot at 17th Street and 1st Avenue, next to the playground, after 6 p.m., or across 1^st Avenue and throughout downtown Rock Island. Community Policy

For years, boiling corn on the cob meant watching a pot, timing it just right, and still ending up with kernels that were sometimes tough and sometimes mushy. Switching to a slow cooker milk bath solved that problem completely. The corn comes out tender and sweet every time, and the stove stays free for everything else on the menu.
