Drivers heading through downtown Moline will be able to access River Drive again, just as another street closes for a viaduct bridge project.

River Drive will reopen to traffic by the end of the day on Friday, June 12. This is a major milestone in the city’s 16th Street Viaduct Bridge Project. Work now transitions to the next stage as 4th Avenue and parts of 15th Street will close beginning Monday, June 15 so crews can begin work on the second half of the project. This means 4th Avenue will be closed from 19th Street to 13th Street and includes the intersection of 4th Avenue and 15th Street. Drivers are asked to follow posted detours during the construction.

The project is funded through an $11.5 million federal grant from the Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP) and helps maintain a critical connection to the Rock Island Arsenal.

Key improvements to the viaduct include:

  • Full replacement of the bridge deck and parapets
  • Upgraded, modern lighting for enhanced night visibility
  • Critical structural steel beam repairs to ensure long-term safety and functionality
  • New decorative elements along River Drive and 15th Street
