City Council to meet Monday
Portsmouth City Council will be meeting Monday with a wide slate of topics to be considered and discussed. Among other items, Council is expected to make a proclamation recognizing the 50th anniversary of The Scioto Foundation and hear first reading of a resolution that would authorize the city auditor to determine the best way of financing the $3 million to complete renovations of the new city building.

New Boston baby zebra just dropped
Franklin Park Zoo is celebrating some of its newest mothers this Mother's Day and showing off this year's newborn baby animals.Why it matters: The zoo is welcoming a baby Hartmann's mountain zebra and two chicks, a yellow-billed stork and a wattled crane.The 69-pound male zebra foal arrived on April 24 and is the first of the species to be born at the Franklin Park Zoo.It was up and walking with its mother, 5-year-old Khumalo, by the next morning.It is the first offspring for Khumalo and Khomas, 6.The newborn is interacting well with the other zebras in the Serengeti Crossing area of the zoo and spends time nursing and sprinting around the habitat.Zebras get zoomies, too. Lady Mambas headed to nationals
The seventh grade Lady Mambas AAU team based in Hillsboro, with players from Highland and surrounding counties, had a successful last weekend placing first in the Buckeye Storm Classic Tournament in Portsmouth. The win qualified the team to play at National Championship Tournament in South Carolina from June 19-23. Pool play at Portsmouth was Saturday with the Lady Mambas winning 49-18 over WV Wild 2029 and 57-18 win over Assassins 2028-2029. Sunday was tournament play with a 45-23 win over the Assassins and a championship win, 38-32, over WV Wild 2029. The Lady Mambas current season record stands at 15-4, with two first place tournament finishes this season, one second place, one fourth place and one sixth place.
