Central NY man arrested with assistance from SWAT in murder case, police say
Utica, N.Y. — A Central New York man was arrested for murder with help of a local SWAT unit Saturday morning, police said. James Beard, 47, of Utica, was arguing with Curtis Henry, 44, of Verona, around 8 p.m. in the 100 block of Boyce Ave in Utica on Friday, said Lt. Michael Curley, a spokesperson for the Utica Police.

Rhode Island native, 21, killed in NY car crash
A 21-year-old Rhode Island native was one of two people who died in a multi-car crash in Utica, New York, this weekend. Utica police say officers responded to Culver Ave. at Lansing St. around 12:05 a.m. Saturday for a motor vehicle accident and found two cars badly damaged, with both drivers unresponsive.

Joseph J. Lasowski 1937 – 2023
Mr. Joseph J. Lasowski, Joe, a lifelong resident of Little Falls, passed away peacefully at his home from natural causes on Monday morning, September 25, 2023. He was 86. Joe was born in Herkimer on May 13, 1937, son of the late Joseph and Jenny Lasowski, and attended Herkimer schools. He entered into the military service with the US Air Force and was a proud veteran receiving an honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Kasiak at Saint Josephs church Herkimer, celebrating 62 years of marriage. Joe was employed by Mohawk Valley Bottling Works in Herkimer. He later became the owner/operator of Bober’s Meat Market in Little Falls. He was so proud of his hard work at the meat market and talked about it fondly with family and friends. He later worked at Budweiser Beer Distribution in Little Falls. His last employment was with Smith Meat Packing, Utica. A proud veteran, Joe was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post 31 and the Little Falls Polish Home.
Family Rosary Crusade Returns to Utica
UTICA, NY -- One of the biggest events for Catholics in Central New York returned to Utica Sunday. The Family Rosary Crusade. Over 800 Catholics from around the area, and as far away as Binghamton and Albany, filled St. Joseph-St. Patrick church on Columbia Street to pray the rosary and hear from special guest speaker Rev. William Casey, from Fathers of Mercy.
Welsh heritage celebrated in Festival of Song
NEW HARTFORD — St. David’s Society of Utica will sponsor their Fall Gymanfa Ganu at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the New Hartford Presbyterian Church, 45 Genesee St. A Gymanfa Ganu is a festival of sacred song in the Welsh tradition, said Stewart Williams, events coordinator of the society. Guests will become participants in a massive choir singing traditional Welsh hymns in four-part harmony. While most of the songs are in English, participants will be taught to sing some verses in the Welsh language.
