Second Daily Train Service To Begin Next Month
A second daily Pennsylvanian passenger train service will officially begin operations on November 18th, offering expanded travel options between Pittsburgh and New York City via Harrisburg. Amtrak and elected officials gathered at the Johnstown train station yesterday morning to announce the landmark expansion, which marks the first major increase in passenger rail service through central Pennsylvania in decades. Previously, riders in central Pennsylvania only had access to one eastbound and one westbound train each day. The new service will double that capacity, bringing the total to four daily trains passing through the region. Westbound trains will depart Altoona daily at 12:24 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., reaching Pittsburgh in approximately two hours and 50 minutes. For eastbound travel, trains leave Altoona at 9:43 a.m. and 3:33 p.m. daily, arriving in Harrisburg about two hours and 50 minutes later. Tickets available for purchase on Amtrak’s Official Website.
