The local news landscape is shrinking. On Thursday, the Chaska Herald, Chanhassen Villager and Jordan Independent will print final editions. On Saturday, Shakopee Valley News, Prior Lake American, Savage Pacer and Southwest will shutter. The group of papers encompasses Southwest News Media. And their sister publications in Hutchinson and Litchfield will also shut down.

Bird Island residents injured in car/semi collision on Highway 212
Two residents of Bird Island were injured when their vehicle and a semi truck collided on Highway 212 on Friday. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, on April 19, Laura Ann Berg, age 37, of Bird Island, was driving a Nissan Rogue westbound on Highway 212. Near Acorn Avenue in Mcleod County, she attempted to make a U-turn, and her vehicle was crashed into by a westbound Freightliner Cascadia, being driven by Charles Joseph Dzurenka, age 56, of Winsor, Conn.
